Georgian soprano Tamar Iveri made her stage debut at a very young age in the children's chorus in Carmen and completed her musical training at the National Conservatory of Tiblisi. In 1998 the young soprano made her first solo appearance in Tiblisi as Desdemona (Otello) alongside Christian Johansson and Renato Bruson, and was then engaged as an ensemble member of the BATUMI NATIONAL THEATER and as a guest artist with the TIBLISI NATIONAL OPERA.
In July 1998 Tamar Iveri participated in the Voci Verdiane Competition in Busseto and won 2nd Prize. Later that year the artist performed in a concert tour of Japan in which she sang arias from La Traviata, Ernani, Otello, La Bohème, Adriana Lecouvreur and Un Ballo in Maschera.
In January 1999 Ms. Iveri won 1st Prize in the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg, and was invited to the EVIAN FESTIVAL by Mstislav Rostropovich. Soon thereafter Ms. Iveri participated in a benefit concert in Vienna under Rostropovich's direction for children of Kosovo alongside Grace Bumbry and Fiorenza Cossotto, where she performed arias of Verdi, Puccini, Bizet and Charpentier.
During the 2000-2002 seasons Ms. Iveri burst forth on the international opera scene due to her exquisite singing and intensely moving interpretations. In November 2000 she made her debut as Elisabetta (Don Carlo) at OPER BONN, and appeared at the GRAZER OPERNHAUS as Tatiana (Eugène Onegin), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Liù (Turandot). In November 2001 she made her WIENER STAATSOPER debut as Mimì (La Bohème). In March 2002 Tamar Iveri celebrated her Italian debut as Desdemona (Otello) at the TEATRO PALAFENICE in Venice under the musical direction of Marcello Viotti, and in July of the same year she made her ROYAL OPERA HOUSE CONVENT GARDEN debut in London as Amelia (Simon Boccanegra).
In the 2002-2003 season Ms. Iveri again appeared at the GRAZER OPERHAUS as Elisabetta (Don Carlo) and in the title role of Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur in a new production created specifically to celebrate her dramatic talents. Additional high points of 2003 include a concert tour in Japan as Desdemona (Otello) alongside José Cura as well as Ms. Iveri's debut at the CHORÉGIES d'ORANGE Festival in France also as Desdemona, where she received the highest praise from the press.
Ms. Iveri's huge success in earlier seasons culminated in more high points during the 2003-2004 season: Otello (Desdemona) at TEATRO ALLA SCALA DI MILANO under the musical direction of RIccardo Muti; La Bohème (Mimì) at the DEUTSCHE OPER BERLIN; Don Giovanni (Donna Anna) at ROYAL OPERA HOUSE COVENT GARDEN in London conducted by Antonio Pappano; Otello (Desdemona) at the GRAZER OPERNHAUS and Simon Boccangra (Amelia) at ROYAL OPERA HOUSE COVENT GARDEN alongside Neil Shicoff. In March 2004 Mrs. Iveri participated in a benefit concert for Or Chadasch at the Etablissement Ronacher in Vienna also alongside Neil Shicoff. In May 2004, Ms Iveri gave her debut in the title role of Suor Angelica in Graz, and in July she performed as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at the SÄCHSISCHE STAATSOPER DRESDEN.
Tamar Iveri’s plans for the 2004/2005 season included, in the summer, her debut at the SALZBURGER FESTSPIELE as Fiordiligli in Così fan tutte under Philippe Jourdan and her return to the WIENER STAATSOPER as Mimí (La Bohème) as well as Verdi’s Messa da Requiem in Genova and again Mimí (La Bohème) at the DEUTSCHE OPER BERLIN.
In addition, she gave her debut at the METROPOLITAN OPERA NEW YORK as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) in 2005.
During the 2005/2006 season, Tamar Iveri will perform as Fiordiligli (Cosí fan tutte) at the THÉÂTRE DU CAPITOLE in Toulouse, where she will also sing the title role in Puccini’s opera Suor Angelica. In addition, she will give the Mimí (La Bohème) at the SEMPER OPER DRESDEN and the soprano part in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at the HERKULESSAAL in Munich. In September 2006, she will return to the WIENER STAATSOPER as Mimí (La Bohème) and portray the Amelia (Simone Boccanegra) at the DEUTSCHE OPER BERLIN.
Tamar Iveri was a recipient of both the Eberhard Wächter Medal of Austria and a national prize in Georgia.
